Southampton new boys Gaston Ramirez and Maya Yoshida are pushing for full debuts in against Aston Villa.
The pair came off the bench in last weekend's 6-1 thrashing by Arsenal with the latter replacing Jos Hooiveld, who is optimistic of returning from the calf injury which forced him off.
Guly do Prado could return after being left out of the squad at the Emirates Stadium, while Jack Cork has overcome an ankle problem picked up in pre-season.
Villa manager Paul Lambert could be tempted to hand summer signing Christian Benteke his first Premier League start against Southampton following the striker's goalscoring cameo last week.
The Belgium international came off the bench to net the second in Villa's 2-0 win over Swansea last Saturday and is vying for a place alongside Darren Bent at St Mary's.
Lambert has Chris Herd and Fabian Delph available after injuries but Marc Albrighton is not quite ready and Richard Dunne and Gary Gardner are long-term absentees.
Nigel Adkins desperately needs a win with his future as Southampton manager already being questioned after losing all four opening Premier League games.
It is harsh on him, as the Saints have had tough early fixtures, but they are leaking goals.
Thankfully for them, Aston Villa's young team possess a poor scoring record away.
Darren Bent has much incentive though, after losing the captaincy, and a new partnership with Christian Benteke appears to have potential.
Betting: Home 7-5, Away 9-5, Draw 11-5.
Stat of the game: Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last four Premier League visits to Southampton.
Arindem Rej’s prediction: Southampton 1 Aston Villa 1.
