Eden Hazard

The Belgian winger’s salary demands, and the attached costs of making the deal happen, saw City walk away from transfer before Hazard left Lille for Chelsea.

Robin van Persie

City made a bid and laid out an offer to Van Persie, but felt there was insufficient value in raising their interest to match Manchester United's financial outlay on a 29 year-old.

Javi Martínez

Athletic Bilbao’s £40 million asking price was viewed as excessive, while complicated Spanish tax regulations merely added to the potential outlay for the Spain midfielder.

Daniele De Rossi

Roberto Mancini retains an outside hope of signing the Roma midfielder, but De Rossi (right) has insisted publicly that he would prefer to stay in Rome, his home city.
