Ferdinand, who is expected to escape a fine or other punishment from Ferguson for refusing to wear a 'Kick it Out' T-shirt prior to Saturday's game against Stoke, appeared relaxed and upbeat as he joined in with his Manchester United team-mates at Carrington.

Ferguson, having claimed Ferdinand would be 'dealt with' for 'embarrassing' him with his refusal to wear a Kick it Out T-shirt, shared Ferdinand's light mood, with the two men laughing as the players performed a high-tempo ball game in front of the cameras.

Ferdinand is expected to keep his place in the team for Tuesday's Champions League tie at home to Braga, particularly with Chris Smalling still a notable absentee from training.

Smalling, sidelined with a broken foot since July, is close to a first-team return, but he did not take part in training today.

Ashley Young, whose knee injury lay-off is now approaching two months, trained with the rest of the first-team squad.

Ferguson, meanwhile, is set to speak publicly for the first time since the Ferdinand row erupted when he stages his pre-match prss conference at 2pm today.
