Stoke have scrutinised video footage of a clash between Wilkinson and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli but have reluctantly accepted the charge.

Referee Mark Clattenburg failed to spot the incident, where Wilkinson appears to catch Balotelli in the face with his arm, during Saturday's game and the FA charged the Stoke defender retrospectively on Tuesday.

Wilkinson will now miss Stoke's games against Chelsea, Swansea and Liverpool.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis said: "We've had a look at the video but will have to take it on the chin."
